Advoy Application
Static Screen ![]()
Advoy is an online communication tool used by people with hemophilia and their treatment centers. The primary value for the system comes from patients entering their self-treatment data. The tools to make this process have been evolving over the years, it now takes a matter of seconds to duplicate a previous entry on a new date.
I attended a user experience meeting and was able to have some rare conversations with actual patients (there are significant legal barrier between developers and end users of Advoy). I learned about a common practice among patients, peeling the labels off product vials after they are used, and sticking them to a calendar. With this in mind I redesigned the gateway page of the application to be one big calendar. This refocused the application on entering treatments, and provided valuable context, answering questions such as, "when did I last enter a treatment?" I have shepherded this application through a couple such adjustments of focus, each time building prototypes and getting user feedback. I look forward to working on applications where the user base is more accessible.
On the technology side, this application was developed using WebWorks (Struts 2.0), and the prototype.js library. The introduction of an AJAX library got me to rethink, and rework, many of the process flows within the application, and will undoubtedly influence my future work.
